The Mountain Forest Marathon — where endurance and adventure meet.

Where endurance and adventure begin to meet

Covering 45 kilometres of diverse terrain, the MFM45 takes in some of the most iconic trails in Magoebaskloof: indigenous forests, mountain ridges, plantation roads and technical singletrack. It is a serious challenge that rewards determination with spectacular scenery and an unforgettable day in the mountains.

You'll run under dense forest canopy, cross mountain streams and descend into hidden valleys — surrounded by some of South Africa's most pristine and untouched wilderness.

The route

The MFM45 is divided into three distinct stages. Finish within the 10-hour cut-off.

01 · Climb and Climb Some More

The first 17 km is seriously tough: a massive climb out of the valley, followed by relentless undulating terrain. With continuous climbing and technical ground, you never really find a rhythm.

02 · Magic Miles

From 17 km you can free the legs on forestry roads all the way to Broederstroom, then make your way to the big descent to Debengeni — Magic Miles.

03 · Valley Return

You still have to make your way back to Krabbe. This involves a brutal climb out of the Debengeni Valley via the Wall of Magoebas, followed by a quad-crunching downhill on Limpopo-Flo. If you can still move efficiently down Limpopo-Flo, you've nailed it and are in for a good finish time.
