Sunday 21 March 2027 · Krabbefontein Café, Magoebaskloof

The most popular trail race in the north of our beloved South Africa.

A journey through the heart of Magoebas

The MG30 offers the ideal balance between challenge and adventure. The route takes runners deep into the mountains, forests and plantations that define the Magoebaskloof trail network.

With sustained climbs, fast descents and breathtaking views, it delivers a true trail-running experience while remaining achievable for those taking the next step beyond shorter trail races. It is one of the most beautiful trail runs in South Africa — but a proper challenge, with a very tough distance-to-vert ratio.

Starts are in batches, seeded by the prologue you run at registration on Saturday.

The route

The MG30 is divided into three distinct stages, each with a different challenge.

01 · Limpopo-Flo Climb

Starting at the base of the Magoebaskloof valley, you climb out of the valley and into the indigenous forests. It is a big, sustained climb, but the views make it worthwhile.

02 · Descent to Debengeni

From the top, the second part of the race descends to Debengeni Falls. Manage your legs well — don't blow your quads on the downhill.

03 · Valley Return

You still have to make your way back to Krabbe. This involves a brutal climb out of the Debengeni Valley via the Wall of Magoebas, followed by a quad-crunching downhill on Limpopo-Flo. If you can still move efficiently down Limpopo-Flo, you've nailed it and are in for a good finish time.
